Finding Inspiration in Every Turn
Macas Greens is committed to sustainable practices, and we take pride in growing our produce without sprays and using organic methods. While we are not officially certified organic, our traditional farming techniques reflect a deep respect for nature and a passion for cultivating healthy vegetables. In our effort to minimize waste, we utilize reusable boxes for all our deliveries, ensuring that our processes remain environmentally friendly.

In 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID pandemic, I was inspired by my family's traditional practices of growing fresh ginger in the Philippines. Our discussions about the day-to-day challenges on the farm fostered a sense of bonding, making us feel safe and united. We began sharing our farming dreams, which became our hope and inspiration. To my delight, our landowner, the people around us, and our community were very supportive, and thus the journey began. I started with a few courgettes and chillies during the summer, but I struggled to compete with all the weeds, rabbits, and pokeko birds. Those were real challenges! I couldn’t seem to win against them. However, instead of giving up on my passion for farming, I came up with different ideas to outsmart my "frienemies," and I’m glad they worked!
Growing the Dream

our story
As my confidence grew, I gradually increased the range and variety of seasonal vegetables. From growing courgettes, I expanded to cultivating ginger and kumara on a much larger scale. It was a dream come true to be able to harvest my very own ginger here in New Zealand. However, another challenge arose: where could I take my produce? I tried selling to shops, but most wouldn’t accept my vegetables because they didn't meet the standard sizes. Some store managers commented that my courgettes and tomatoes were too small.
Then I met a man who happened to be a local grower and became a close friend. He taught me nearly everything I know about growing here in New Zealand, continually guiding and supporting my journey. I cannot express my gratitude for his wisdom. He encouraged me to join the local farmers market on weekends, which proved pivotal. My uneven-shaped courgettes suddenly became stars, crooked carrots were beloved, and even my tiny tomatoes found the spotlight. All my veggies were thrilled to be picked! Customers remarked, “Ugly but real and tasty veggies,” which motivated me to expand my vegetable varieties, ensuring that customers enjoy a diverse, spray-free, organically grown, and ever-changing selection.
I gladly shared that first market experience with my family, and I have continuously received their full support. My wife, Seychelle, offered to help me on weekends. It’s incredible how she transformed our veggie stall into a place where everyone smiles and has a story to share. Her loving spirit radiates through her smile, making others smile as well. There is an abundant flow of positive energy that our lovely customers look forward to that enchanting experience every weekend.
Seychelle later introduced the idea of using reusable baskets for our displays and presentations, allowing customers to shop with ease while minimizing waste. It’s a simple yet highly effective approach.
Our farm remains committed to sustainable, traditional farming, spray-free and organic practices, nurturing the land and our customers with care. We invite you to join us on this journey, sharing in the joy of fresh, wholesome produce and the story of our little farm that grew.
